Users in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East report sharp price increases for YouTube Premium, following the U.S. trend of rising subscription costs.
YouTube Premium subscribers across several regions, including Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, are reporting significant price increases for their plans. Over the weekend, users took to social media to share that they had been notified of these hikes, which vary by region, according to Android Authority. The affected regions include the European Union (EU), Middle East, and South America.
Price Increases for Individual and Family Plans
Both individual and family YouTube Premium plans are seeing price adjustments. In some EU countries, the family plan is rising from €17.99 to €25.99, while individual plans are going from €11.99 to €13.99. When converted to Indian Rupees, these new prices translate to approximately ₹2,290 for family plans (previously ₹1,585) and ₹1,230 for individual plans (previously ₹1,050).
Users from regions such as Singapore, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia have also reported similar increases. On Reddit, one user is actively tracking the new rates for YouTube Premium across multiple regions.
Premium Lite Returns?
Interestingly, a Reddit user posted a screenshot of a new Premium Lite option with a "beta" tag. YouTube had piloted this version of Premium, which offers fewer features than the standard plan, back in 2021, only to discontinue it last year. However, it seems the company might be reintroducing this stripped-down version in certain regions.
Following the U.S. Trend
These increases mirror the price hikes experienced by U.S. subscribers over the past year. In the U.S., individual Premium plans rose from $11.99 to $13.99 (₹1,160 to ₹1,355), while family plans jumped from $17.99 to $22.99 (₹1,740 to ₹2,225). With streaming services like Disney Plus, Max, and Paramount Plus also raising their prices recently, it’s evident that the trend is going global.
YouTube has yet to officially comment on these changes, but users should prepare for potential price hikes in more regions as the platform continues to adjust its pricing strategies.
