Microsoft has identified a critical issue affecting manually created Windows 11 (version 24H2) installation media. USB and CD installers made using the October or November 2024 updates might leave devices unable to receive future security patches.

Bug Details

The issue impacts PCs installed using media created with updates released between October 8, 2024, and November 12, 2024. However, devices updated via Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog remain unaffected.

Mitigation Steps

To resolve the issue:

Rebuild installation media with the December 2024 patch (released December 10).
Reinstall Windows using the updated media.
