Apple gears up for a spooky season surprise: new Macs, iPads, and possibly the long-awaited launch of Apple Intelligence.

After unveiling the iPhone 16 lineup, new Apple Watches, and the AirPods 4 last month, Apple isn’t done yet. The tech giant seems poised to reveal updated Macs and iPads soon, possibly as early as this October. Whether the announcements come in the form of a press release blitz or a full-scale event, fans are eager to see what’s next.

So, what exactly should we expect? From chip upgrades to redesigns, and maybe even the rollout of Apple Intelligence, here’s a breakdown of the devices and features likely to make headlines this month.

Apple Intelligence: The AI Future Arrives

Apple's much-hyped Apple Intelligence is expected to officially launch this fall, with the first wave of features arriving soon. If you’ve been running the public or developer beta versions of iOS and macOS, you may have already seen glimpses of these AI tools. But for most users, Apple Intelligence will land across iPhones, iPads, and Macs in the coming weeks.

Among the first features will be:

  • Writing Tools for proofreading, summarizing, and rewriting

  • A redesigned Siri experience

  • New Photos app features, such as Clean Up, similar to Google’s Magic Eraser

  • Live transcriptions for phone calls and voice memos

More advanced features, like ChatGPT search integrations, Genmoji custom emojis, Image Playground for generative art, and Visual Intelligence image searching, are set to roll out later this year and into 2025.

The AI-driven tools will be available on iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max and the iPhone 16 lineup, as well as on iPads and Macs with M1-generation processors or newer. This could be one of Apple’s most significant updates in recent years, blending convenience, creativity, and productivity all in one place.

MacBook Pros: New Chips and Space Black?

Last October’s event saw a chip bump for Apple’s MacBook Pro line, introducing the M2 generation. This year, we’re expecting Apple to introduce M4 chips across the board, but the bigger news might come in the form of a redesigned 14-inch MacBook Pro.

Rumors suggest a space black 14-inch MacBook Pro could be in the works, with an M4 chip, 16GB of RAM, and a third Thunderbolt port—which would solve some key complaints users had with last year’s entry-level Pro. We may not see major changes for the 16-inch MacBook Pro, but the M4 generation chips alone are likely to give a serious performance boost.

If you’re in the market for a MacBook Pro, this could be a good time to pounce on discounts for older models as retailers clear out inventory.

Mac Mini: A Tiny Redesign?

The Mac Mini has been a fan favorite for years, especially for those who appreciate its compact size and value. This October, we might finally see a major redesign. Leaks indicate Apple could shrink the Mac Mini even further, perhaps down to the size of an Apple TV box.

Additionally, the M4 and M4 Pro chips are expected to power this new iteration, offering a significant performance leap. However, the USB-A ports could be on the chopping block, signaling a shift toward a fully USB-C future. While some users might miss those ports, the new design could make the Mac Mini more portable and accessible.

If the rumors are true, this would mark the first significant redesign for the Mac Mini in over 14 years — a big deal for Mac enthusiasts!

iMac: New Chip, Same Design

Apple’s iMac lineup has been somewhat quiet since its colorful refresh in 2021. While we don’t expect a major redesign, the M4 chip could make its way to the iMac this month, offering a power boost without changing much on the outside.

However, there’s one update iMac fans are waiting for: USB-C accessories. With the iPhone 16 series ditching the Lightning port for USB-C, the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard could follow suit. These accessories are among the last in Apple’s lineup to still use Lightning, so a move to USB-C feels inevitable.

For those holding out for a larger 32-inch iMac or a return of the iMac Pro, it seems you’ll have to keep waiting. Rumors suggest bigger changes to the iMac line may come in the future.

iPad Mini: A Long-Awaited Update

One of the most overdue updates is the iPad Mini. The current model, released in 2021, still runs on the A15 Bionic chip — the same chip found in the iPhone 13. Rumors suggest the Mini could jump to an M-series chip this year, potentially getting an M4 or M2 chip upgrade.

For pilots and on-the-go professionals, this would be a welcome performance boost, bringing the Mini closer in power to the iPad Air and iPad Pro. Whether Apple will bundle additional features with this update remains to be seen, but anything is better than the status quo for Mini fans.

We might also see updates to the 10.9-inch iPad. However, it’s unclear whether that refresh will happen this month or in early 2025. The current model had its price dropped to $349 earlier this year, so any new changes will likely aim to clean up the accessories and improve the overall experience.

What About the Mac Studio and Mac Pro?

The Mac Studio and Mac Pro are still running on M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips, meaning they’re due for an upgrade to the M4 Max and M4 Ultra at some point. However, there have been very few rumors about imminent updates to these pro-level devices. It’s possible Apple will space out these launches to avoid overwhelming the market, but creatives and professionals are anxiously waiting for the next leap in performance.

Final Thoughts: A Season of Surprises?

While Apple’s October announcements might not be as flashy as its September iPhone event, they’re still worth watching. Between the introduction of Apple Intelligence, the potential redesigns of the Mac Mini and MacBook Pro, and the long-overdue update for the iPad Mini, there’s plenty to be excited about.

Apple has a history of saving surprises for the final months of the year, so don’t rule out the possibility of unexpected announcements. Whether you're in the market for a new device or just a tech enthusiast, it’s a good time to keep an eye on Apple’s October announcements.
