Foldables, AI, and Smart Rings, Oh My!

Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event is just around the corner, scheduled for 9 AM ET on July 10th in Paris, France. The company is dropping some not-so-subtle hints about the event’s focus through its announcement video, which clearly teases foldable devices and includes a description mentioning “Galaxy AI is here.” You can catch the livestream on YouTube or Samsung’s website.

While foldable phones and AI developments are headlining the event, there’s plenty more to look forward to, including new Samsung Watch products and the intriguing Galaxy Ring.

Galaxy Ring: Samsung’s Foray into Wearable Health Tech

Samsung’s January announcement of the Galaxy Ring was little more than a teaser, but the company did give reporters hands-on time with a prototype at Mobile World Congress in February. This prototype revealed the ring’s colors, sizes, and some details about the sensor data it would collect. However, key details like the price, specific health sensors, and release date remain unknown.

Rumors suggest the Galaxy Ring could be priced around $300 to $350. There’s also speculation that Samsung may launch a fitness and health subscription service alongside the ring. While FCC testing records have disclosed battery capacities, official information from Samsung has been scarce.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6: Refined Foldables

Leaked renders of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 give us a glimpse of what to expect. The Z Fold 6 is rumored to feature an updated, more squared-off design, brighter screens, and slightly longer battery life, despite maintaining the same 4,400mAh battery size as its predecessor.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6, while less changed in design, is expected to receive notable updates. These include a significant brightness boost for the screen, a vapor chamber cooling system, and an increase in battery capacity to either 4,000mAh or 3,790mAh. The secondary screen might switch to an IPS panel instead of OLED. Both phones are anticipated to be lighter, thinner, and powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

Galaxy AI: Samsung’s Next Frontier in Artificial Intelligence

Samsung has been quick to embrace AI, and many of its Galaxy AI features are already available or coming soon to various Galaxy devices. Current AI functionalities include on-device audio and text translations during calls, photo and video editing, and Google’s Circle to Search feature. The upcoming event provides Samsung with an opportunity to distinguish itself in the AI arena further.

Samsung Galaxy Watch: The Next Generation

The event will likely include announcements about the next Galaxy Watch lineup. Rumors suggest that while the regular Galaxy Watch 7 will offer incremental updates, Samsung has already announced a budget-friendly Galaxy Watch FE. However, the spotlight might be on the new Galaxy Watch 7 ‘Ultra.’

The Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra, as seen in leaked renders, features a larger, more robust design with a squircle case and a still-circular watch face. This chunky watch appears to be Samsung’s response to the Apple Watch Ultra, including a third button that may function similarly to Apple’s Action Button. Notably, it also seems to feature a proprietary slide-in watchband connector, meaning current Galaxy Watch bands might not be compatible.

New Galaxy Buds: Inspired by Apple

Samsung’s new Galaxy Buds 3, based on leaks, appear to take design cues from Apple’s third-generation AirPods. The Galaxy Buds 3 feature angular stems instead of round ones, with blue and orange accents at the tips. The “Pro” models differentiate themselves with a matte gray finish. Reports suggest that these buds might already be in some retail stores, with one Reddit user claiming to have purchased a pair for $250 at a Walmart in the US.
