For now, it's exclusive to South Korea, but China may get it soon.
Samsung has just unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition (SE), a fresh take on its foldable flagship lineup. This new version brings some notable upgrades, but the catch? It's only available in South Korea for the moment, with potential plans to launch in China as well.
What’s New with the Galaxy Z Fold SE?
The Galaxy Z Fold SE is thinner, lighter, and equipped with enhanced hardware compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which was launched not long ago. Here’s a breakdown of the key upgrades:
Slimmer & Lighter: At 10.6mm thick and weighing 236 grams, the Z Fold SE is 1.5mm thinner and 3 grams lighter than the Z Fold 6. These changes make it slightly more portable and easier to handle.
Bigger Displays: The Special Edition features larger screens both on the inside and outside. The inner display now measures 8.0 inches, while the outer display comes in at 6.5 inches—both slightly bigger than the 7.6-inch and 6.3-inch displays on the Z Fold 6.
Upgraded Camera: The wide-angle camera has received a significant boost. The Galaxy Z Fold SE boasts a 200-megapixel wide-angle sensor, a massive jump from the 50-megapixel sensor on the Z Fold 6.
More Memory: The Z Fold SE now comes with 16GB of RAM as standard, which should provide smoother performance, especially for tasks leveraging Galaxy AI.
Pricing and Availability
For now, the Galaxy Z Fold SE will only be available in South Korea, where it is priced at 2,789,600 KRW. Converting that into Indian Rupees, it amounts to approximately ₹1,73,000. The foldable is set to go on sale on Friday, October 25th, with China expected to be the next market where it could launch.
A Subtle Upgrade in the Foldable World
While the design and hardware improvements in the Z Fold SE are certainly noteworthy, they might not be enough to completely change the narrative around Samsung’s foldables. The foldable market is one that Samsung pioneered, but with increasing competition from other manufacturers, more significant innovations may be needed to sway potential buyers. That said, if you’re looking for a top-tier foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold SE is currently the best Samsung has to offer.
The Galaxy Z Fold SE is shaping up to be a fantastic option for those who want to experience the cutting-edge of foldable tech, but importing it to India may be the only option for now if you’re keen on getting your hands on it.
Stay tuned for more updates on whether Samsung expands availability to other global markets!
