YouTube is expanding its Premium subscription offerings, according to a community post shared by the company on Thursday. The post, authored by a YouTube team member identified as Hazel, outlined plans to introduce new subscription options and enhance existing ones.

“We’re committed to bringing members more plan options by expanding our existing offers to more regions, while also introducing new plans and exploring ways for you to share your benefits with friends in the future,” Hazel noted in the announcement.

Current YouTube Premium Plans

As of now, YouTube offers a limited selection of Premium plans:

  • Individual: $13.99 per month (or $139.99 for 12 months)

  • Family: $22.99 per month

  • Student: $7.99 per month

Subscribers to YouTube Premium enjoy several perks, including ad-free videos, the ability to download videos for offline viewing, and ad-free access to the YouTube Music library. However, Thursday’s post did not provide specifics on what the new plans will entail or which benefits might be shareable with friends. YouTube has yet to respond to requests for further details.

In addition to new subscription plans, YouTube is rolling out several features for its Premium members. An AI-powered “jump ahead” feature, recently launched on Android, will soon be available on iOS. This feature helps users navigate videos more efficiently. Furthermore, Android users with Premium subscriptions will soon be able to watch YouTube Shorts in picture-in-picture mode, a feature that is already available on TikTok.

Premium subscribers will also have access to experimental features they can opt into, including:

  • Automatic Offline Shorts Download: Batches of Shorts will be downloaded to your phone for offline viewing.

  • Conversational AI Assistant: YouTube is bringing back this assistant following a previous test.

  • Redesigned Desktop Watch Page: A new look for the watch page on desktop is in the works.

YouTube Premium is adding new features and expanding plan options.

These updates signify YouTube’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and offer more flexibility in how subscribers can enjoy content. The ability to share benefits with friends could potentially make YouTube Premium more attractive and versatile for users.

Stay tuned for more updates as YouTube continues to innovate and expand its Premium offerings.
