Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of global affairs, admitted that the company’s error rates in content moderation remain too high, hindering free expression.
Pandemic Overreach and User Backlash
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Meta aggressively removed large volumes of posts, a decision influenced partly by government pressure. CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently admitted this to the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee. With hindsight, Meta recognizes it “overdid it,” as users consistently criticized the excessive takedowns of innocuous posts.
