The latest Quest update introduces UI improvements, a built-in calendar app, and new travel functionalities for VR users on the go.

Introduction

Meta’s latest update for its Quest VR headsets, version 71, brings significant enhancements aimed at improving the user experience within the Horizon OS. With a redesigned interface, calendar integration, and an upgraded Travel Mode, the v71 update introduces features that make the Quest more user-friendly and versatile for both work and leisure in virtual reality.

Horizon OS Redesign: A Fresh Look and Improved Accessibility

One of the highlights of this update is the redesigned Horizon OS, which now offers an optimized dark and light theme to enhance contrast and readability. Meta has overhauled various UI elements, including the control bar and colors, for a more streamlined appearance. Additionally, the Settings menu has been revamped with a new layout and enhanced search capabilities, making it easier for users to find and adjust their preferences.

A VR Calendar App with Cross-Platform Integration

The new calendar app in the v71 update allows users to access their schedule directly within VR. Compatible with Google and Outlook calendars, the app also supports Meta Horizon Worlds events and meetings scheduled in Meta Horizon Workrooms. This integration enables users to stay organized and keep track of their VR events and real-world appointments, bridging the gap between VR and daily planning.

Travel Mode Expansion: Now Usable on Trains

Meta’s Travel Mode, initially designed for air travel, has now been adapted for use on trains. This feature lets users enjoy VR content with minimal controller functionality, making it ideal for watching movies or browsing apps while commuting. However, certain games may not be compatible due to limited controller support in this mode. Meta advises against using Travel Mode in moving vehicles, such as cars, to ensure user safety.

Conclusion

With the v71 update, Meta continues to refine the Quest experience, providing a modernized interface, organizational tools, and enhanced travel functionality. As virtual reality becomes more integrated into everyday life, these updates bring Meta’s vision of a seamless, immersive, and productive VR experience closer to reality.
