PFU America adds a stylish white variant to the HHKB Studio lineup, bringing both aesthetics and functionality to the forefront.
PFU America has finally introduced the HHKB Studio Snow, a white version of the much-loved HHKB Studio, one of the most unique mechanical keyboards on the market. While the change might seem minor—just a color variation—it addresses one of the most frequent user requests. Until now, the HHKB Studio was only available in black. The new Snow edition, which is available for purchase at ₹27,500 (approx.), elevates the visual appeal of the keyboard while retaining all its popular features, including the trackpoint and mechanical switches.
A New Look for the HHKB Studio
The HHKB Studio Snow brings a fresh white and silver chassis, paired with white keycaps that feature light grey legends. This elegant design sets it apart from the original charcoal variant and brings it closer to the HHKB Professional series in terms of aesthetics. While it’s certainly a step up visually, it still lacks some of the customization options that fans desire, such as different keycap sets right out of the box.
Though blank keycaps or keycaps with black legends for better visibility will be available for ₹5,800 (approx.) starting in November, it’s a bit of a letdown that these alternate sets aren't included from the get-go. Custom keycap options for the HHKB Studio are limited because of the specialized design of keys around the trackpoint and non-standard spacebar stabilizers, making third-party customization difficult.
Familiar Features, Now in White
The HHKB Studio Snow retains the same features that made the original Studio such a hit. It still sports Cherry MX-compatible mechanical switches with a layout inspired by the cult-classic Happy Hacking Keyboard (HHKB), along with a ThinkPad-style trackpoint and reprogrammable gesture pads. The mechanical switches in this keyboard resemble Kailh Silent Islets, offering a satisfying typing experience that mimics the tactility of Topre electrocapacitive switches found in the HHKB Professional series.
Trackpoint: Love It or Hate It
One of the defining features of the HHKB Studio is the trackpoint. While it’s certainly not for everyone, it’s a game-changer for those who prefer not to carry around a mouse while traveling. The trackpoint is precise enough for casual use, and it helps save desk space. However, users must be sure they’re comfortable with it, as it’s one of the primary reasons for choosing this model.
Pricing and Availability
The HHKB Studio Snow is priced at ₹27,500 and is available now at PFU’s official website and mechanicalkeyboards.com. Despite its high price tag, it offers a unique combination of premium design and functionality, appealing especially to fans of minimalist layouts and mechanical keyboards with a twist.
If you're in the market for a new mechanical keyboard and don’t mind the trackpoint, the HHKB Studio Snow is certainly worth considering, especially if aesthetics are important to you.
With its new Snow color option, the HHKB Studio finally gets the visual upgrade it deserves. While it might not bring new hardware innovations, it certainly looks a lot better sitting on your desk.
