Planned Features Included High-Refresh Display, 5G Connectivity, and Smarter Home Integration
Google's Pixel Tablet 2, now scrapped, was poised to introduce significant upgrades over its predecessor. According to insider reports, the device was to feature a 120Hz 10.95-inch LCD display, doubling the refresh rate while maintaining a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. Enhanced cameras, including a 10MP selfie shooter from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and an 11MP rear sensor, were also part of the mix.
Connectivity and Performance Enhancements
The Tablet 2 would have incorporated the 5G modem from the Pixel 9 series, alongside GPS support for cellular models. Though lacking satellite connectivity, it aimed to bolster smart home capabilities with Thread radio support, complementing its hybrid nature as an Android tablet and smart display.
An Opportunity Lost
Google also planned external display support for up to 4K monitors, signaling a push for greater productivity. However, with its cancellation, the Pixel Tablet 2 remains a missed opportunity to rival Apple’s iPad lineup.
For now, Google’s focus on its hardware portfolio leaves the Pixel Tablet a standalone experiment, leaving fans wondering what could have been.
