New features include easier notification management, enhanced safety checks, and one-time permission access.
Google is making it easier for Android users to manage pesky notifications in the Chrome browser. A recent update introduces a more intuitive way to unsubscribe from unwanted website notifications with a single tap. This feature, already available on Google Pixel devices, is rolling out to more Android devices soon, providing a seamless way to clean up your notification tray from sites you no longer wish to hear from.
Easily Opt-Out with a Single Tap
One of the most notable additions is the new unsubscribe button in notifications. This option allows users to quickly stop notifications from websites they accidentally subscribed to, such as random horoscopes or quirky facts about ducks. And just in case you change your mind, there’s also an undo button, letting you keep those notifications if you suddenly find them useful.
This streamlined approach to notification management enhances user experience, ensuring you don’t have to dig through Chrome settings to turn off unwanted alerts.
Automatic Revocation of Old and Unsafe Permissions
Along with improved notification controls, Chrome for Android now includes an updated Safety Check feature that works in the background. This tool automatically revokes permissions from websites that you haven’t visited in a while or that have been flagged as unsafe. The feature helps users maintain a safer browsing environment by keeping tabs on permissions that are no longer necessary.
Users can review the actions taken by Safety Check in a summary panel that highlights potential security risks, such as compromised passwords, and offers recommendations for improving security, like updating software or enabling Safe Browsing.
One-Time Permission Access for Greater Privacy
Another privacy-focused feature added in this update is one-time access for websites requesting sensitive permissions like your camera, microphone, or location. This means you can grant temporary access for specific tasks, such as a virtual doctor visit, and Chrome will automatically revoke the permissions once the session ends. This prevents websites from retaining long-term access to your device’s hardware, enhancing both security and privacy.
Fighting Spam and Malicious Websites
Chrome’s updated permission management system also helps users combat spammy or malicious sites. By identifying and automatically removing permissions for suspicious websites, Chrome reduces the risk of data misuse or unauthorized access. Users are notified of these actions, and they can choose to review and adjust their permission settings as needed.
A Safer, More Convenient Browsing Experience
These new features reflect Google’s ongoing efforts to improve user safety and convenience within its Chrome browser. The ability to quickly opt-out of notifications, combined with automatic permission revocation and temporary access features, ensures that users maintain greater control over their browsing experience.
With Chrome becoming increasingly user-friendly, managing notifications, permissions, and overall browser safety is now simpler and more effective than ever before.
