Google is keeping the stainless steel design but upgrading the Nest Learning Thermostat display.

Google is gearing up to launch the fourth generation of its acclaimed Nest Learning Thermostat, featuring notable enhancements in design and functionality. Following recent leaks, new details have emerged that shed light on the upgrades users can expect from this latest model.

Enhanced Display and UI

The fourth generation Nest Learning Thermostat is set to feature a high-resolution, borderless display. This upgrade will allow the user interface to extend into the area previously occupied by a black bezel on the third generation units. Leaked images reveal that UI elements now appear much closer to the edges of the display, providing a more seamless and modern look.

Dynamic Farsight and Customizable Home Screen

A new feature, Dynamic Farsight, is mentioned in the leaks. While existing Nest models wake up to display information such as weather, time, or room temperature when you approach, the dynamic aspect of this new feature suggests that the fourth generation model may offer a mixture of information displays rather than being limited to specific options.

Additionally, the new Nest Learning Thermostat will have a customizable home screen. However, details on the extent of customization available are still unclear.

Natural Heating and Cooling

The leaked documents also mention "natural heating and cooling," though specifics on this feature remain vague. It likely refers to more efficient and environmentally friendly temperature regulation methods.

Comprehensive Integration with Google Home

One of the most significant improvements is the enhanced integration with the Google Home app. Unlike the basic integration of the third generation model, the new thermostat will feature a full UI within the Google Home app. This allows users to adjust settings and control schedules directly from Google Home without needing to switch to the Nest app.

Hardware and Pricing

The fourth generation Nest Learning Thermostat will include an oval-shaped trim plate, the usual thermostat base, a rear steel plate, and a second-generation Nest Temperature Sensor in the box. While no major hardware upgrades beyond the display have been confirmed, there is hope that Google has improved the internal components, addressing issues like the notorious Wi-Fi chip problems that plagued earlier models.

The leaker suggests that the new model will be priced at $279, which converts to approximately ₹23,058. The new Nest Temperature Sensors are expected to be priced at $39 (around ₹3,223) each, or three for $99 (about ₹8,181).

Conclusion

With these upgrades, the fourth generation Nest Learning Thermostat promises to enhance user experience through a more intuitive and customizable interface, improved display, and better integration with the Google Home ecosystem. Official launch dates and pricing details are anticipated at the upcoming "Made by Google" hardware event on August 13th.
