Delta, the popular retro gaming emulator for iOS, has released a significant update that introduces a redesigned logo and native iPad support, allowing users to play multiple games simultaneously. This update, version 1.6, marks a major enhancement for iPad users who have been eagerly awaiting full-screen support and improved functionality.

Native iPad Support and Multitasking Features

Previously, Delta was available on iPad but ran as a letterboxed iPhone app, which limited its functionality and usability. The new Delta 1.6 update changes this, enabling the app to utilize the full iPad screen. This update also incorporates native iPad features such as Stage Manager support, Handoff (for continuing gaming sessions started on an iPhone), and Split View, which allows users to run emulated games across multiple windows.

The 1.6 update optimizes Delta’s UI to take full advantage of the full-screen iPad display and improves the touchscreen buttons with new virtual controllers. This enhancement significantly improves the gaming experience, providing users with a more immersive and seamless interface.

Redesigned App Logo

In addition to the functional improvements, Delta has also updated its app icon. The new logo replaces the stylized letter “D” that was previously used, following concerns from Adobe about similarities to its own logo. The updated icon, designed by Caroline Moore, features a more fragmented look that distinguishes it from Adobe’s design and aligns with the app's retro gaming theme.

The new Delta logo (pictured) should be different enough from Adobe’s to soothe its reported threats of legal action.

Availability and Future Plans

Users in the EU can download the Delta 1.6 update immediately via AltStore PAL. However, others will need to wait for App Store approval, as the current version was rejected according to a screenshot shared by Delta developer Riley Testut.

Testut previously indicated that providing native iPadOS support was a priority over other “big” features. With the release of version 1.6, he can now focus on additional exciting enhancements, such as device-to-device multiplayer and Sega Genesis emulation.

Conclusion

The Delta 1.6 update brings significant improvements for iPad users, enhancing the gaming experience with full-screen support and optimized touch controls. The updated app logo also resolves previous legal concerns, paving the way for future developments.
