You won’t need a separate app from Asus to control the RGB lighting on its latest AMD and Intel boards.

Asus is embracing Microsoft’s new Dynamic Lighting feature, which allows Windows 11 users to control a motherboard’s RGB lighting without needing a separate app. The tech giant has begun testing new beta BIOS updates for both its AMD 600 and Intel 700 series motherboards, including the Dynamic Lighting support.

A New Era for RGB Lighting Control

Microsoft introduced Dynamic Lighting to Windows 11 in September, marking the first time that native RGB lighting controls have been available within the operating system. This feature lets users manage RGB lights using the open HID LampArray standard. Major manufacturers such as Acer, Asus, HP, HyperX, Logitech, Razer, and Twinkly have partnered with Microsoft to support this innovative functionality.

Beta Testing and BIOS Updates

Asus’ latest motherboards require a BIOS update to support Dynamic Lighting, which should be available in the coming weeks. A beta version of this BIOS update is currently accessible through Asus’ forums for both AMD and Intel boards. However, it's worth noting that flashing a beta BIOS can be risky and may require restoring an older BIOS version if bugs are encountered.

Simplified RGB Management

Once your Asus board supports Dynamic Lighting, you can manage the brightness, colors, and effects directly within the Settings section of Windows 11. While the lighting controls are relatively basic at the moment, they offer a significant advantage: you can avoid using Asus’ Armory Crate tool and instead use native RGB controls within Windows. This also means you don’t have to rely on third-party RGB controller software like OpenRGB, unless you need additional functionality.

Enhanced Functionality for Intel Boards

The Intel Z790 beta BIOS updates not only include Dynamic Lighting support but also come with a microcode update that should help resolve some of Intel’s game crashing issues. This dual benefit makes the update particularly valuable for gamers and enthusiasts who rely on stable and high-performance systems.

Conclusion

Asus’ adoption of Microsoft’s Dynamic Lighting feature is a significant step forward for RGB lighting management, providing users with a seamless and integrated experience within Windows 11. With the upcoming BIOS updates, users can look forward to more streamlined control over their system’s aesthetics without the need for additional software.

For those eager to try out the new features, the beta BIOS updates are available now, with stable versions expected soon. This move not only simplifies RGB lighting control but also underscores Asus’ commitment to enhancing user experience through innovative technology.
