Stop using the Anker 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K), Anker Power Bank, and Anker MagGo Power Bank immediately.

In a recent development, Anker has issued a recall notice for three of its popular power banks due to a potential fire hazard. The affected models include the Anker 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K, model number A1642), Anker Power Bank (model number A1647), and Anker MagGo Power Bank (model number A1652). According to the company, a manufacturing defect in the lithium-ion batteries of these power banks could lead to overheating, posing a significant fire risk.

This isn’t the first time Anker has faced such an issue. A similar recall was triggered in June 2024 for another of Anker's power banks, raising concerns about the safety of their lithium-ion battery technology. Although the company emphasizes that only a small batch of batteries was affected, it is recalling all of the impacted models as a precautionary measure.

Anker’s recalled power banks can be identified by their model numbers located on the bottom or back of the device.

How to Identify Affected Models

To ensure consumer safety, Anker has provided guidelines to identify the affected models. Users should check for the model numbers — A1642, A1647, and A1652 — printed in white text on the back or bottom of the power bank. Additionally, the serial number, which is located near the model number, is required to verify whether the device is part of the recall.

If you own one of the impacted models, stop using it immediately and store it in a safe place to avoid potential fire hazards. Anker advises consumers to fill out a recall form after confirming the product’s serial number, and a replacement will be provided.

Important Safety Measures

Anker warns users not to dispose of the recalled power banks in regular trash due to the risk of fire posed by lithium-ion batteries. Instead, they should be taken to authorized facilities that specialize in safely handling and recycling such products. In the United States, users can find these facilities through the Environmental Protection Agency’s website or other organizations that manage e-waste disposal.

A Commitment to Safety

Anker is well-known for its wide range of power banks and charging accessories, but the recurrence of these recalls raises questions about the reliability of its lithium-ion battery technology. However, by recalling these products "out of an abundance of caution," the company demonstrates its commitment to consumer safety.

“We understand that safety is a top priority for our customers, and we are committed to resolving this issue swiftly,” an Anker spokesperson said in a statement. “We urge all users to immediately stop using the affected models and follow the recall process to ensure their safety.”

Steps to Follow if You Own a Recalled Power Bank

  1. Check the model number on your Anker power bank. The affected models are A1642, A1647, and A1652.

  2. Stop using the device immediately and store it in a safe location.

  3. Verify the serial number near the model number to confirm if your device is part of the recall.

  4. Fill out Anker's recall form to receive a replacement.

  5. Dispose of the power bank safely by taking it to a facility that handles lithium-ion battery recycling. In the US, you can locate these facilities through the EPA’s website.

Conclusion: A Safety First Approach

While recalls can cause inconvenience for consumers, they are critical to ensuring product safety. Anker’s decision to recall these power banks highlights the importance of addressing potential hazards before they escalate. If you own one of the affected devices, be sure to follow the steps outlined by Anker and prioritize safety.
