Google has officially started rolling out Android 15 for its Pixel devices, following the initial release of the OS on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) in September. With this update, Pixel phones and tablets are getting a host of new privacy and security tools, alongside enhancements designed for foldables and larger tablet screens. This rollout also comes with the much-anticipated Pixel feature drop for October, bringing exclusive features for Pixel devices like Night Sight on Instagram and enhanced Audio Magic Eraser controls.

Key Features in Android 15 for Pixels

1. Private Space for Hidden Apps

One of the standout features in Android 15 is the introduction of a private space where users can store apps they wish to keep hidden from others. According to Google, this feature is designed for sensitive apps such as social, dating, or banking applications. Apps moved to this space won’t show up in recent apps, notifications, or general settings. Accessing the private space requires additional authentication, and users can even hide its existence from plain view.

2. Enhanced Taskbar for Foldables and Tablets

For users of foldable devices and tablets, Android 15 brings an upgraded taskbar. It now allows users to pin and unpin the taskbar, making it easier to access apps on larger screens. Additionally, Android 15 introduces app pairing functionality, where frequently used app combinations can be paired and accessed with a single icon.

3. Theft Detection Lock and Remote Lock

Another significant feature coming to both Android 15 and older Android devices is Theft Detection Lock. This AI-powered tool detects when a phone might have been stolen and automatically locks it. Alongside this, the Remote Lock feature allows users to lock their phones using another Android device or even their phone number after a simple security check. Google mentioned that these features will be available for most devices running Android 10 or newer.

Pixel Feature Drop Highlights

Google has also launched the latest Pixel feature drop for October, packed with new tools and improvements for Pixel users:

  • Night Sight for Instagram: Aimed at improving low-light photography directly within Instagram, this feature allows Pixel users to take sharper and clearer photos in dim environments.

  • Audio Magic Eraser Enhancements: The popular tool for removing background noise in videos is getting more controls, letting users fine-tune audio quality even further.

More Features on the Way

In the coming weeks, Google plans to add more features, including the ability to seamlessly transfer media between a Pixel Tablet and a Pixel phone simply by holding them next to each other — a highly anticipated feature for multi-device users.

Conclusion

Android 15 delivers a suite of innovative features focused on privacy, security, and convenience, especially for foldable devices and tablets. Along with the Pixel-specific updates, this release promises to make Android devices smarter, more secure, and even more user-friendly. The rollout has begun, so Pixel users can start exploring these new features as soon as their devices receive the update.
