HP OmniBook Ultra Launches with AMD Ryzen AI 300-Series Processor, Priced at ₹1,19,999
HP’s resurrected OmniBook line is set to receive a significant performance upgrade with the introduction of the new HP OmniBook Ultra. This latest model features an AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processor with integrated AMD Radeon 800M graphics, up to 32GB of RAM, and a pair of 40Gbps Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports. Scheduled for release in August, the HP OmniBook Ultra will be available for ₹1,19,999. Notably, it will eventually receive a free software update to become one of the first Copilot Plus PCs not powered by an ARM-based processor.
The OmniBook branding was revived in May with the HP OmniBook X AI laptop, which, like most of the Copilot Plus PCs announced at that time, is powered by an ARM-based Snapdragon X Elite processor. This processor's neural processing unit was rated at 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS). However, with the AMD Ryzen AI 300 series inside, the new OmniBook Ultra promises “up to 55 TOPS of NPU performance,” according to an HP press release.
The AMD Ryzen AI 300 series is an x86-based processor, offering greater compatibility with a wider range of Windows applications. In contrast, older applications may require emulation to run on a Windows PC powered by the Snapdragon X Elite or other ARM-based processors.
Both the OmniBook X AI and the OmniBook Ultra feature 14-inch, 2240 x 1400-pixel LCD touchscreens. However, the new Ultra model boasts several small updates. Alongside the two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, the Ultra includes an older USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port. The Ultra’s webcam has been upgraded to a resolution of 9MP, and the device now supports quad speakers with DTS
Ultra, as opposed to the stereo speakers in the OmniBook X AI.
Weighing in at 3.48 pounds, the OmniBook Ultra is about half a pound heavier than the OmniBook X AI, partly due to its larger 68Wh battery. Despite this, the Ultra offers slightly less battery life, with a maximum of up to 13 hours of average use or up to 21 hours of local (non-streamed) video playback, compared to the X AI’s 59Wh battery.
At launch, the new OmniBook Ultra will not include Copilot Plus functionality, but HP plans to release a free update to add these features. HP notes that the timing and availability of this update “will be dependent on Microsoft.”
The HP OmniBook Ultra is poised to be a powerful addition to the OmniBook lineup, providing enhanced performance and greater compatibility for users seeking a robust AI-powered laptop.
