Dual Audio, improved hearing aid support, and tactile QR codes aim to make Fire TV more inclusive.
Introduction
Amazon has introduced significant accessibility updates for its Fire TV lineup, focusing on enhancing the viewing experience for individuals with hearing impairments and other disabilities. These updates include the Dual Audio feature, expanded support for hearing aids, and innovative tactile QR codes for easier navigation.
Dual Audio Feature
The new Dual Audio feature allows users to connect ASHA-enabled hearing aids to Fire TV while others in the room listen via the TV’s speakers. This update fosters a more communal viewing experience. Initially available on the Fire TV Omni Mini LED, the feature will roll out to other models soon.
Expanded Hearing Aid Compatibility
Amazon has extended ASHA support to include Widex Moment Behind-The-Ear (BTE) and Receiver-In-Canal (RIC) hearing aids. This update ensures compatibility across multiple Fire TV devices, including the Fire TV Cube, Omni Series, and QLED Series.
Tactile QR Codes
Amazon is introducing raised UV tactile QR codes on packaging, making it easier for visually impaired users to locate and scan them. These QR codes provide direct access to detailed setup instructions and product information.
Sustainability Efforts
In addition to accessibility updates, Amazon is improving its packaging with increased use of recycled materials and reduced ink usage.
How to Use the Features
To Enable Dual Audio:
Press and hold the Home button on the remote.
Navigate to Settings → Accessibility.
Turn on Dual Audio and pair a compatible hearing aid.
To Pair a Hearing Aid:
Go to Settings → Accessibility → Hearing Aids → Add Hearing Aids.
Conclusion
With these updates, Amazon reaffirms its commitment to making technology accessible for all. The introduction of Dual Audio, expanded hearing aid support, and tactile QR codes marks a step forward in inclusivity.
