The Integration of ADT Plus with Google Nest and Yale Smart Lock Enhances Home Security and Convenience

ADT has launched its much-anticipated new security system, ADT Plus, which is now available on ADT.com. This new system features entirely new hardware and deep integrations with Google Nest cameras, smart speakers, and more, delivering a cohesive and enhanced security solution for modern homes.

Trusted Neighbor: A Revolutionary Feature

One of the standout features of the ADT Plus system is "Trusted Neighbor." This innovative feature leverages smart locks and facial recognition technology to provide trusted individuals with secure access to your home during emergencies or routine tasks. The Yale Assure Lock 2 is the first smart lock to be compatible with this feature.

With Trusted Neighbor, users can set their system to automatically unlock the door and disarm the security system when a trusted person arrives. After the task is completed, the system re-locks and re-arms itself, ensuring continuous security.

Enhanced Integration with Google Nest

The ADT Plus system marks a significant shift for ADT, bringing its professionally installed system and DIY setup to parity. This integration with Google Nest is part of a broader strategy following Google's investment in ADT. The system uses various protocols, including DECT Ultra Low Energy, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, and BLE, to provide robust and seamless smart home automation.

Wayne Thorsen, ADT’s chief business officer, emphasized that this is just the beginning of more intelligent integrations expected to come to the new platform. The Familiar Face feature of Google’s Nest cameras plays a crucial role in Trusted Neighbor, allowing the system to recognize and grant access to familiar individuals.

Flexible Packages and Pricing

ADT Plus offers flexible packages to meet different security needs and budgets:

  • Front Door Protection Bundle: Includes the new base station, two door/window sensors, a Yale Assure Lock 2, and a Google Nest Doorbell (battery). Regularly priced at $658.98 (approximately ₹54,036), it is available at a launch discount of $461.29 (approximately ₹37,812). Professional monitoring costs $45 (approximately ₹3,692) per month, including a subscription to Nest Aware for event-based video recording (24/7 recording is an additional $7, approximately ₹574).

  • Total Safety Package: Adds a third door/window sensor, a motion sensor, three Google Nest Cams (indoor, indoor/outdoor, and floodlight), and three water temp sensors for $1,101.76 (approximately ₹90,330, regularly $1,573.95, approximately ₹128,974).

  • Build Your Own Package: Starts at $269 (approximately ₹22,043) for the base station and one door/window sensor.

The system can be self-installed and self-monitored, with the option to pay for one month of monitoring. For professional installation, a 36-month monitoring plan is required.

A Nod to Nest Secure

The new ADT Plus system has a striking resemblance to the now-discontinued Google Nest Secure system. The base station features a backlit touch-button keypad with proximity sensing, and the door/window sensors resemble the Nest Detect sensors. While these sensors can be disabled with a button press, they do not double as motion sensors like the Detects.

Looking Ahead

Since Google's investment in ADT, the company has seen several former Nest employees join its ranks, including Wayne Thorsen and new CTO Gilles Drieu. This influx of talent and technology from Google Nest is evident in the design and functionality of the new ADT Plus system.

While the ADT Plus system works with Google Nest hardware, it is currently only controllable through the ADT Plus app and not the Google Home app. This limitation highlights the ongoing challenge of achieving seamless integration across different smart home ecosystems.

As ADT, Google, and Yale continue to innovate and collaborate, the future of smart home security looks promising. The ADT Plus system, with its advanced features and deep integration, sets a new standard for convenience and security in the modern smart home.
