Adobe has rolled out a major update to its Creative Cloud suite, integrating powerful new AI tools in Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and InDesign to streamline creative processes.

At the Adobe Max 2024 conference, Adobe has announced a slew of AI-powered features across its Creative Cloud apps, with Photoshop leading the charge. The latest update introduces cutting-edge tools such as automatic background distraction removal, an updated Firefly AI model, and advanced editing features, marking one of the biggest enhancements in recent years.

While Photoshop takes center stage, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and InDesign are also seeing significant AI-driven upgrades aimed at making design work faster and more intuitive.

Photoshop AI Features: Removing Distractions and More

One of the most exciting new tools in Photoshop is the Distraction Removal feature, added to the Remove Tool. This works similarly to Google’s Magic Eraser found in Pixel phones, allowing users to quickly remove unwanted elements from an image. Now, the Distraction Removal feature takes it a step further by automatically identifying and deleting common distractions, such as people, wires, and cables, without users even having to manually brush over them.

Beyond distraction removal, Adobe has enhanced its generative AI features in Photoshop with updates to Generative Fill, Generative Expand, Generate Similar, and Generate Background tools. These tools are now equipped with the latest Firefly Image Model (version 3), which delivers more photorealistic and varied outputs than ever before. Adobe claims that this new model also better understands complex prompts, giving users more control over how their images are generated.

Additionally, Photoshop’s web app now makes editing even easier with an automatic object selection feature, designed to help users quickly isolate elements within an image.

Adobe Illustrator: More Flexible and Accurate Designs

For Illustrator users, Adobe has introduced an innovative Objects on Path feature. This allows designers to easily attach, move, and arrange objects along a specified path or shape. The feature grants greater flexibility in aligning and positioning elements, making complex designs quicker and easier to manage.

Illustrator has also upgraded its Image Trace tool, which converts raster images (JPEG, PNG, PSD, etc.) into scalable vectors. According to Adobe, the tool now produces crisper, more accurate outputs, with cleaner lines that closely resemble the original image.

InDesign and Premiere Pro: Expanding the Canvas with AI

The AI magic doesn’t stop there. InDesign is now equipped with Generative Expand, a tool previously available in Photoshop. This feature allows users to extend images to fit a desired layout, giving them more flexibility when working with limited image assets. Whether designers need to resize a photo for a brochure or expand a background to suit a poster, Generative Expand ensures seamless extensions with AI-generated content.

Premiere Pro has also received attention with the introduction of the Firefly AI Video Model. Although currently in beta, the Generative Extend feature in Premiere Pro is designed to help video editors extend backgrounds, add elements, or modify scenes using AI. This video model is expected to serve as a foundation for many more AI-driven features across Adobe’s video editing software.

Adobe’s Vision for the Future of AI in Creative Tools

Adobe’s integration of AI into its Creative Cloud suite showcases its continued commitment to leveraging technology to simplify and accelerate design workflows. The advancements in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro reflect the company's vision of AI as a tool to empower creators, not replace them. Whether through automatic object removal, intelligent path alignment, or generative design features, Adobe is transforming how designers, photographers, and video editors work with their tools.

With these updates, Adobe has made it clear that AI will play a pivotal role in the future of creative work, ensuring that professionals and hobbyists alike can focus more on creative expression and less on the time-consuming technical aspects of design.

Final Thoughts

Adobe’s newest AI-powered tools make design, photography, and video editing more intuitive than ever. Whether you're an illustrator seeking cleaner vectors, a photographer looking for seamless edits, or a video editor working with generative AI, these updates are set to transform your workflow for the better. With Firefly AI improving photorealism and new features like Distraction Removal automating tedious tasks, Adobe is taking a bold step forward in revolutionizing creative software.
